Extreme Choice is the most expensive sire in the land this spring and for his many fans he does have some more affordable sire sons to choose from and one of those is Tiger of Malay, who posted his fifth winner at Doomben on Wednesday.
Trained by Matthew Hosted and ridden by Jag Guthmann-Chester, Apex Predator was sent off as favourite for the 1200m juvenile maiden off the back of two trial wins and had no trouble taking that good form into race day.
She worked to the front with 100m to run and was strong to the line when forging clear to win by half a length.

Apex Predator was a modest $35,000 Inglis Classic purchase from Glenlogan Park for Proven Thoroughbreds / Matt Hoysted Racing and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Brave Danza.
Bred by Glenlogan Park, Apex Predator is the sixth winner and final foal from eight foals to race from Morganza (GB), a winning half-sister by Singspiel to Group II winner Monturani from stakes-winner Mezzogiorno, who was placed in a Group I Epsom Oaks.
Given the quality and stamina in her female family it would be no surprise to see Apex Predator get out in trip as she matures.
Apex Predator is the fifth winner for Tiger of Malay and his third metro winner joining Obambulate and Forest King, while Momentslikethese is stakes-placed.
Tiger of Malay stands at Newgate at a fee of $11,000 alongside his famous sire Extreme Choice.
