Golden Slipper winning sire Stay Inside might have missed out on stakes success on Saturday when his brilliant daughter Blue Door was a gallant second in the Listed ATC Rosebud, but he has made amends with two promising debut winners in the past 24 hours.
The Michael Freedman trained colt Schumacher won on debut at Kembla on Saturday and then on Sunday Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott produced Harry Lime to score at Wyong.
Harry Lime showed promise in two recent trials and did his best work for Regan Bayliss on the line to win the 1200m maiden by a head in a close finish.
A $320,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Newgate for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / Kestrel Thoroughbreds, Harry Lime has a pedigree that indicates a slightly longer trip will suit.
“He’s only going to get better over further this horse,” said stable representative Neil Paine.
“Regan rode him a treat although he wobbled around the turn as he’s such a big horse. That was the worry coming here as to whether he would handle the track and he probably didn’t handle the track, but still won which tells you he is a nice horse.”
Harry Lime is the second winner from three foals to race from stakes-winning High Chaparral (IRE) mare Whispered Secret, a grand-daughter of Group III winning Zabeel mare Matras from the family of dual Group I winner Prized Icon, who won a Victoria Derby.
Whispered Secret is due to foal again to Stay Inside, who stands at a fee of $66,000 this spring at Newgate.
