Narrowly beaten at her first two starts, talented Wild Ruler filly Saffron Veil broke the ice at Canterbury on Wednesday bringing a pedigree update for her three-quarter brother headed to the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale next month. 

Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald, Saffron Veil was a hot favorite for the 1250m maiden and forged clear to win by three-quarters of a length over her stablemate Affari, another promising filly by Home Affairs, whose turn in the winner’s circle cannot be far away. 

“Third time lucky and she did a good job for Ichi (Yusuke Ichikawa, Bloodstock and PR Manager for Rising Sun Syndications) and the Rising Sun syndicate, they bought a nice one,” said stable representative Charlie Duckworth. 

“I think both first and second, they’re both well above Wednesday grade. I know obviously Affari now has to go and win her maiden too, but they’re both promising horses with plenty of upside left in them. 

“Saffron Veil was initially in our thoughts for the Flight Stakes and 1000 Guineas. The Flight Stakes has come around too quick, but you’ve still got to keep the 1000 Guineas in mind, at least that is what we are thinking.” 

James McDonald is also of the view Saffron Veil has more to offer. 

“She’s a quality filly with a bright future and she can adapt to circumstances during a race too,” he said. 

“She did it well and was always in control. I think she can run a bit further too.” 

A $350,0000 Inglis Premier purchase for Rising Sun Syndicate / Healthy Wood Co from the draft of The Chase, Saffron Veil was bred by China Horse Club and is a three-quarter sister to Group I ATC Randwick Guineas winner Communist. 

She is the fourth winner from five foals to race from stakes-placed Cappadocia, a half-sister by Northern Meteor to Group I winner Zip Zip Array and stakes-winner Zipanese. 

It’s the family of Group I winners Niconero and Nicconi, so quality is everywhere on this page. 

The Newgate Consignment will offer the current 2YO from Cappadocia at the Inglis Ready 2 Race with the Russian Revolution gelding to be offered as Lot 222 and he is a full brother to Communist. 

Saffron Veil is the eighth winner of the new season for Wild Ruler, who sits at the top of the table for second season sires by winners. 

The Group I winning son of Snitzel is priced at $27,500 this spring at Newgate.
