At this time of year the fortunes of a young stallion can change very quickly and a good winner can often translate into mare bookings, so it might pay to keep a watch on Tiger of Malay, who had a new winner at Bendigo on Wednesday and will have an exciting runner in the Group III MRC McNeil Stakes this Saturday.

The Shane Nichols and Hayden Black trained gelding Tiger Fox stepped out to 1600m for the first time and ran his older rivals ragged. He led throughout to beat the hot favourite Sheistheboss by two and a half lengths.

Tiger Fox was a $20,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase for his trainers and has already recouped costs with the promise of more wins to come.

Tiger Fox is the tenth winner from 33 runners from the first crop of Tiger of Malay, a brilliant Group winning son of the freakishly good stallion Extreme Choice.

While Extreme Choice is advertised at a fee of $385,000 if you are lucky enough to get a mare into him, Tiger of Malay stands at just $11,000 and at Caulfield on Saturday he may well get his first stakes-winner.

The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young trained colt Obambulate had three starts last season for two wins including a highly impressive win at Caulfield at the end of May.

Craig Williams has ridden Obambulate in all three races and retains the ride in the Group III MRC Mc Neil Stakes (1200m) and from barrier two should get a favourable run if he is up to the challenge.

Obambulate is one of a select group of three year-olds that have been entered for the Group I MVRC Cox Plate which tells you all you need to know about the high regard in which he is held.
